Highlanders Set for Round 2, Commit to Coachless Playoff Run

DUNEDIN, FL – 2025-05-25 – The Dunedin Highlanders’ unprecedented playoff journey continues into Round 2 of the EAFL playoffs — and they’re doubling down on the bold approach that stunned the league last weekend: no coaches on The Highlanders' sidelines.

Following their 42-20 victory over the Florida Bereans, team captains held a postgame conference call and unanimously decided to finish what they started — on their own terms.

“This team needed a spark,” said General Manager Chris Housholder. “We finished the last four games of the season 1-3, losing against three playoff football teams. We couldn’t just sit idle. We were in a downward spiral. It was time to do something bold. The players galvanized and rallied behind each other. This is a bold and innovative approach the league has never seen before during a playoff run — and we’re all in. No team distractions. Just football.”

“Some call our strategy diabolical,” Housholder added. “I call it bold and innovative.”

Despite the absence of a traditional coaching staff, The Highlanders are led by a uniquely qualified roster. “I have players on this team that have played in the NFL, college, and many currently coach high school football,” Housholder continued. “Several are longtime semi-pro veterans with 15 to 20 years of experience. If we’re being honest, a lot of these guys are more qualified to call plays than many coaches in this league. I have full confidence in their ability to get the job done — and they proved it last night.”

The Highlanders now turn their attention to the Round 2 matchup against the Lakeland Jokers — a team they defeated on the road earlier this season.

“The Jokers are an excellent football team,” Housholder said. “But we beat them at their house in the regular season, and we’re confident we can do it again in the playoffs. I wouldn’t bet against The Highlanders this week. Our players are unified and hyped for this game.”

Interest in the team’s “If You Can’t Beat Them, Join Them” campaign continues to grow, with players from around the league inquiring about joining The Highlanders for 2026.
